You may have watched the latest “Alkaline Water Myth Video” attempt to discredit Alkaline Ionized Mineral Water from Markus Roth Krantz and James Sloane “scientific expert”. When watching something like this, based on some of my own persecutory experiences the following questions pop into my head;
- Have either of them ever used, tested or met with anyone who has experienced Alkaline Ionized Mineral Water?
- The other magic question is which book or product do you recommend I replace it with?
What I also found is that this video didn’t actually have much to do with “Alkaline Water” and doesn’t have anything to do with the alkaline water myth as the author suggests.
A little about me, I am not a medical doctor. I love and I am fascinated by this technology and its host of benefits. I have experienced these benefits personally and have the shared the experiences with family, friends, business partners and customers. We haven’t had any major miracle stories like “curing cancer” as many of the other agencies and resellers around the world have had. Although some of our customers have had some success with energy levels, mood, cognitive function, diabetes, weight loss, restless leg syndrome, chronic sinusitis, fungal infections, IBS and chronic acid reflux and these are just the benefits I know about. I only have personal contact with approximately 5 – 10 % of our customers base so I am quite certain that there are far more success stories. I have personally invested at least 3000 hours into researching Alkaline Ionized Mineral Water and am 100% convinced of its benefits.
Besides my observations, there are countless studies, clinical observations and customer testimonials as to the beneficial effect of this water. The purpose of this article is to address some of the comments made in the video produced by Markus and James on the 31st of July 2013.
I agree with the statement that various parts of the body have different pH readings. One thing I would like to clarify is that statement “parts of the intestine are mildly acidic”. The pH of the intestines is usually between 6 and 7.4.1 If you understand the pH (Potential of Hydrogen) scale you will know that it ranges from 0 – 14 with 7 being neutral and anything below 7 is considered acidic and everything above 7 is alkaline. The pH scale is logarithmic, which means that 6 = 10x more acidic than 7; 5 = 100x more acidic than 7,; 4 = 1000x more acidic than 7 and so forth. On the alkaline side of the scale 8 = 10x more alkaline than 7, 9 = 100x more alkaline than 7, 10 = 1000x more alkaline than 7 and so forth. Once alkaline water with a pH of 9 or 9.5 (which is suitable for drinking) reaches the intestine, the small amount of hydrochloric acid in your stomach would have changed the water to close to neutral.
The Alkaline Water Myth And Candida

In the book, The pH Miracle by Robert O. Young, Ph.D., a leading microbiologist and nutritionist “Acid waste sets the stage for microscopic organisms like Candida. Candida is the Latin name for what is commonly known as yeast in the human body but is really a kind of fungus. Candida is normally found in the gastrointestinal tract, and we would die without it. It can become drastically overgrown with a wide variety of symptoms from annoying to chronic to fatal. An example of Candida is “yeast infections” or thrush. Candida and other microforms will take advantage of the body’s weaker areas, poisoning and eventually overworking them. The acidic environment gives them free rein to break down tissues and bodily processes. Bacteria, yeast, fungus and mould do not produce symptoms, their wastes do and they only show up in a compromised environment.”
Candida yeast ferments dietary sugars into liver-toxic acetaldehyde in the process of turning sugar into energy. It also seems like Candida appears to increase gut and urinary levels of ammonia, which is another liver toxin.
In a study with rats, the pH value of faecal contents was higher and the amount of faecal free-glucose tended to be lower in alkaline ionized water groups than the control group. Since there was no difference in faecal discharge itself, the amount of free-glucose discharged per day was at a low level. The amount of discharged free-glucose in faeces is greater when intestinal fermentation is more intensive, which indicates that intestinal fermentation is more inhibited in alkaline ionized water groups than the control group. Ammonium concentration in faecal contents tends to drop down in alkaline ionized water groups. Alkaline ionized water uptake was found to be inhibitory against ammonium production. So in fact it seems as though alkaline water actually be beneficial, when you look at facts.
Typically antibiotics kill off the good bacteria which allow the candida to turn into its fungal form and that is why is important to take probiotics. In fact taking probiotics is one of the best ways to restore your normal gut acidity. The ‘good’ bacteria in probiotics secrete small quantities of lactic acid and acetic acid, which will help to get the pH in your stomach and intestines down to normal levels.
Stomach Acid and the Digestive System with Alkaline Water
If you take strong alkaline water pH of 10 which is 1000 x more alkaline than 7 which is neutral, you then drop a few drops of lemon juice into the water and then see what happens. Within seconds the pH of the water drops below 7. Based on this observation how can weakly buffered alkaline water dramatically affect the stomach acid in your body? This is an impossibility as the hydroxide ion concentration is so low that it can not. This is the first untruth that most debunkers try and claim about alkaline water.

Prof. Kogure Keizou, Kogure Clinic of Juntendo Hospital states that the stomach is readily upset both by diseases affecting the stomach and by other general illnesses. Nervous tension or anxiety also frequently causes gastric upset. The important role of antioxidant water in our stomach is to neutralize the secretion and strengthen its functions. After consuming the alkaline ionized water for 1 to 3 minutes, the gastric juice will increase by 1½ times. For those suffering from hypochlorhydria or achlorhydria (low in gastric juice) the presence of antioxidant water will stimulate the stomach cells to secrete more gastric juice and this will in turn enhance digestion and the absorption of minerals. On the other hand, those with hyperchlorhydria (high in gastric juice), the antioxidant water will help to neutralize excessive gastric juice. Therefore it does not create any adverse reaction.
A medical lecturer from Maeba University, suggests that the pH of the gastric secretion will still remain normal even when alkaline water has been consumed. This proves that antioxidant water is able to neutralize and it can also stimulate the secretion.
In a research paper by the Department of Physiology of Microorganisms, Lomonosov Moscow State University the following was noted. 96 – 99% of the “friendly” residential micro flora of the intestinal tract consist of anaerobes. Anaerobes do not grow unless the oxidation reduction potentials (ORP) have a negative value of between -300 and – 400 mV, which is the same as the water produced by a water ionizer. The antioxidant properties are able to detox the oxidants that are found in the gut and other tissues.
Dr. H. Hayashi, M.D. and Dr. M Kawamura, M.D found that through clinical experiences for over 15 years at their clinic through drinking and preparing meals with Alkaline Ionized Mineral Water that the patients had improvements in sugar levels, circulation (diabetic gangrene), uric acid levels with gout, gastroduodenal ulcer prevention and recurrences, hyper and hypo-tension, allergic disorder like asthma, diarrhoea after gastrectomy and post-operative bowel paralysis. They also found that they observed changes in their stools colour from black-brown to a brighter yellow-brown one and that the odour became almost negligible.
The Japanese Ministry of Health and Welfare announced in 1965 that the intake of reduced water is effective for restoration of intestinal flora metabolism.
pH Test Paper
Urinary and salivary pH are not intended to diagnose blood pH. It has been suggested that perfect blood pH or homeostasis ph of 7.365 is equivalent to a urinary pH of 6.4 and that a urinary pH of 5.5 could be an indication of a blood pH of 7.35.Their intended use is as follows;
Urine – Demonstrates acid load on the body
Saliva – Demonstrates alkaline buffering ability of the body
The Alkaline Water Myth And Cancer
The extracellular pH in malignant tumors is known to be lower than in normal tissues. There are a collection of research papers that are attributed to show the effectiveness of using Alkaline Ionized Mineral Water with cancer and a whole host of other illnesses.
Electrolyzed Reduced Water (Alkaline Ionized Mineral Water) causes telomere shortening in cancer cells (Shirahata et al., 1999). It suppresses tumor angiogenesis by scavenging intracellular ROS and suppressing the gene expression and secretion of vascular endothelial growth factor (Ye et al., 2008). ERW suppresses the growth of cancer cells and microorganisms (Hamasaki et al., 2005; Komatsu et al., 2001) and induces apoptosis together with glutathione in human leukemia HL60 cells (Tsai, Hsu, Chen, Ho, & Lu, 2009). ERW induces differentiation of K562 cells to megakaryocytes (Komatsu et al., 2003), and when supplemented with Pt nanoparticles, it strongly suppresses the two step transformation of NIH3T3 cells by a carcinogen (Nishikawa et al., 2005).
Magnesium Hydroxide in Ionized water as dangerous
This is an incredibly dramatic over dramatization or what I would like to call BS. Magnesium hydroxide (OTC) – Milk of Magnesia can be given in 5 – 15 ml for children between the ages of 2 – 5 and for adults a dosage of 30 – 60 ml. Alkaline Ionized Mineral Water may have as much as 20 – 40 mg of Magnesium Hydroxide per litre. The safe adult dose is between 30 and 60 000 mg.
One gram (g) = weight of 1 milliliter (ml) of pure water at temperature 4 °C.
Anything in excess whether it’s acidic or alkaline just isn’t good thing. Typical western diets are far more acidic than what is absolutely beneficial for your body to maintain homeostasis. Alkaline Ionized Mineral Water is a great complimentary way to support this.
The fact that it is referred to as a joke or myth is way beyond my ability to comprehend. Studies show that the water is effective at helping with diabetes, arthritis, cancer, high and low blood pressure, cholesterol, Metabolic Syndrome, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and many more.
What I find ridiculous is that the negative ORP wasn’t even mentioned and this is the most important feature. This is the antioxidant power of the water similar to ORAC in foods.
Maybe we should just throw out all research and western medicine and just follow common sense as suggested.
Science has now proven that the water in your cells is alkaline, structured and that it has a negative ORP. Water ionizers produce water with all the properties mentioned so if you are using your common sense why would you drink anything else. 99.99% of all water sources humans consume are unstructured, neutral or sometimes acidic and they have a highly positive ORP.
